
Ashtanga yoga is the original form of Vinyasa Yoga-vinyasa meaning breath + movement in Sanskrit. The term Ashtanga. meaning 'eight limbed in Sanskrit, referred to a holistic system of spiritual practice, with asana or physical aspect, forming one part of a rigorous practice.
Ashtanga uses the principle of heat to purify the blood and therefore detoxifies the whole system. The primary series is an excellent foundation for anyone wanting to gain more strength and flexibility- with other benefits such as increased vitality and endurance. both on the mat and in your daily life.
In this 3 hour workshop we have the opportunity to examine the energetic synergy on which the form based -breath (ujjayi Pranayama - throat breathing'), bandha (the energy locks-pelvic floor, solar plexus and throat) and drishti (visual focus).
We will explore the primary series and look at how to modify poses to make the practice safer and more accessible for beginners; and also the more advanced postures for those ready to go a little further.
